What was the initial situation like? What were the challenges to be mastered?

Duden Learnattack, an online tutorial with videos, interactive exercises and original class work for students from 5th grade to Abitur, has been the corporate startup of the Cornelsen Education Group since its founding in 2015. Since then, it has faced the challenge of completely rebuilding and linking a large number of technical systems and services. The focus was primarily on the speed of implementation.

What possible solutions have you considered for meeting the technical / infrastructural challenge?

At the time, we talked to several companies, but we had no intention of developing our own solution because we didn’t want to “waste” our attention on the complexity of a subscription business, but rather develop functionalities and services for our customers. We have not had any regrets about the decision to choose Billwerk+. On the contrary, Billwerk+ has become a core component of our business that simply works and costs us little attention.

How did the solution with Billwerk+ differ from the others? Why did you finally decide to meet the challenge with Billwerk+?

Billwerk+ is certainly not the largest player in the market, but this enabled us to maintain close contact with product development. At the time, Billwerk+ also supplied relevant certifications at the request of our inspection authorities, so that not only we but also our auditors are very satisfied here.

How did the integration (operational, structural, timewise, etc.) of Billwerk+ and the transformation of the organization work in connection with the solution?

We were able to initially integrate Billwerk+ within a few weeks. For our relaunch in June 2019, we thoroughly modernized the interface once again and made sure that we didn’t duplicate any functionalities while still remaining high-performance, which we succeeded in doing. Billwerk+ supported us again and again with further functionalities.

Do you have any helpful tips for other CIOs/project managers who are also facing a similar challenge?

Just don’t try to bring the complexity of subscription techniques into your own house, because there are already existing systems that might be able to do the same. One initially quickly underestimates the many processes and follow-up questions that can arise in a subscription business on the Internet.
